We’re always on the lookout for noteworthy up-and-coming bands and artists to shine a spotlight on, and, prior to COVID, Texas Music teamed with Austin Monthly to present a Bands to Watch showcase during SXSW. This year, we’re excited for the return of that event — this time in a virtual setting.

To recognize artists from across the state, we asked our team of writers to recommend promising acts, and we’ve assembled here 10 of our current favorites — representing blues, soul, pop, rock, rap, roots, metal, even electro-funk — in a list we hope will help you survive 2021.

Four of those selections — Jackie Venson, Sir Woman, Deezie Brown, and Beat Root Revival — performed at our Bands to Watch showcase March 20, livestreamed from presenting sponsor Still Austin Whiskey Co. to Texas Music’s Facebook and YouTube pages, thanks to video production by 3rd & Lamar. The music began at noon and ran through 8 p.m.

So check out this diverse and dynamic selection of artists, and, if you missed it, you can still tune in to the Bands to Watch shows. Check it out here.
